Pachysandra/Japanese Spurge (Pachysandra terminalis)
WARNING: this should not be planted at the edge of the woods because it can grow out of control and extend into the understory, outcompeting native plants. Controlled patches only!
Pachysandra berries are edible. Entire plant is non-toxic.

Removal:
Dense patches can be cut into squares using a sharp edged shovel and then rolled up. Make sure to shake the dirt out as you go or else it's extremely heavy.
Solarization/smothering with black plastic is also recommended, but be sure to weed whack the tops off first so the plastic is closest to the roots and most effective in killing the plant. Plastic can be left on for 3 months in Summer months and 6 months in winter months. |
